Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky were considered to be one of the strongest couples in the “Real Housewives” franchise for years.
However, Page Six confirmed that the longtime couple had separated in July 2023 after 27 years of marriage.
The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star and the Agency founder initially released a joint statement insisting that they were not “divorcing,” and they went back and forth in the press about whether they had split or not.
By late September 2023, both Umansky and Richards confirmed they were, in fact, separated.
Although the duo has lived much of their lives in the public eye, they were also married for over a decade before beginning their reality TV journey.

1992: Richards becomes single
Before Richards even met Umansky, she was married to Guraish Aldjufrie from 1988 to 1992. She was just 19 when she walked down the aisle for the first time.
Richards welcomed her first child, Farrah Brittany Aldjufrie, with Guraish on Oct. 31, 1998. However, the marriage didn’t last and they got divorced in 1992.
The two appear to still be on good terms. Farrah told the Daily Dish in 2016 that her parents have “always stayed extremely close” and “extremely good friends.”
“He’s very, very close with my mom and Mauricio, like they’re great, great, great friends. I always say I have two dads; they both raised me,” Farrah explained.
1994: A whirlwind romance
Two years into being a single mom, Richards met Umansky at a nightclub called Bar One in 1994 when she was 23 and he was 24.
“He thought I was Demi Moore’s sister — and I had actually been told that [before] — so he worked up the courage to come over and say hello, thinking that I was her sister,” she told the Knot in 2021 during a joint interview with Umansky.
Richards gushed to the outlet that she fell in love with him for many reasons, but especially because he “loved my daughter.”
“Quite honestly, the fact that she already had a daughter, it made dating a lot more important. I had to take it much more seriously because I was responsible for a woman with a daughter,” Umansky shared.
“I also got insight into the way that she was as a mom and how good of a mom she was. And that gave me insight into the future and what it would look like.”
Months after their first meeting, Umansky took their relationship to the next step and proposed to Richards at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, Calif.
“I was just so happy and excited — it was a dream for me. The moment we started dating, I just felt like he was the one,” she told the Knot, adding that she converted to Judaism for him.
January 1996: Saying “I do”
The reality TV personalities tied the knot in front of friends and family at the Bel-Air Country Club on Jan. 20, 1996.
“Overall, we knew we wanted it to be really elegant and really fun. But we were so worried about people making long speeches, so we said no speeches at all,” Richards told the Knot.
They were originally planning to have a wedding in April, but they had to move the date up three months because Richards found out she was pregnant and wouldn’t be able to fit into her dress later.
Despite the fact that they had to make a few tweaks to accommodate for Richards’ pregnancy, they each said they wouldn’t have had it any other way and would not redo it.
“I don’t believe in getting married again or a vow renewal because we got it right the first time and I just don’t want to mess with what works,” she said.
June 1996-March 2008: Expanding their family
Five months after the lovebirds got married, they welcomed their first child together, Alexia Simone Umansky, on June 18, 1996.
“Happy birthday Angel @alexiaumansky words cannot express how grateful I am for you. You’re the most loving, thoughtful, positive, supportive, smart, selfless and kind person I know,” Richards wrote in a birthday tribute for her daughter’s 27th birthday in 2023.
“You are such a bright light in our lives. Thank you for being such an incredible daughter and for all the love you give to me and so many others ❤️🙏🏼😘.”
The couple added to their family four years later when they welcomed their second daughter together, Sophia Kylie Umansky, on Jan. 18, 2000.
Richards raved about Sophia being the “funniest, strongest, smartest, most beautiful woman” on her 23rd birthday in January 2023.
The family of five became a family of six when Richards and Mauricio welcomed daughter Portia Umansky on March 1, 2008.
Portia was only 2 years old when her mom began starring on “RHOBH,” so viewers frequently got to see the little one on television. She eventually grew up and had her bat mitzvah on Season 12 in 2021.
While Portia is still in school and living with her parents as of 2023, Farrah, Alexia and Sophia all work as real estate agents at Mauricio’s company, The Agency.
October 2010: Making their reality TV debut
Richards, Mauricio and their four children began their reality TV journey when “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” premiered on Oct. 14, 2010.
“When we first started, the more people would talk about how happy we were, the more people would try to come for us. It was shocking because we had never dealt with something like that. But now, after all these years on the show, people know us and know our relationship,” Richards told the Knot in 2021.
At the time, she added that they “ended up being stronger from being tested.”
However, psychic Allison DuBois notably told Richards during Season 1 that her husband would “never emotionally fulfill” her during the “Dinner Party from Hell” episode.
September 2011: His new business venture
In 2011, Mauricio launched his own real estate firm called The Agency, which has since evolved into over 95 offices spread across more than 10 countries, according to their website.
The decision initially came at a cost, since Mauricio started the company after leaving his position at brother-in-law Rick Hilton’s firm, Hilton & Hyland. Rick is married to Kathy Hilton, who is Kyle’s sister.
The business split caused a major rift in Kathy and Kyle’s relationship, and the two families didn’t speak for years afterward.
“He and Kathy held tremendous anger toward us, which is not the way I choose to live my life,” Mauricio wrote in his book, “The Dealmaker,” which was released in April 2023.
He claimed the Hiltons “cut all communication” and “no longer invited us to Thanksgiving dinners or other holidays.”
“I never would have stolen a client from Rick, though maybe he didn’t believe my motives were pure,” the real estate mogul continued.
Kathy and Kyle have had a rocky relationship ever since.
January 2016: Two decades together
Richards and Mauricio celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in January 2016.
“20 years ago today I married my soul mate 💝Happy Anniversary @mumansky18 I love you #forever,” Richards captioned a black-and-white photo from their nuptials.
When she appeared on an episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” a few days before their actual anniversary, Mauricio took the opportunity to send a pair of diamond earrings for Cohen to give to her on air.
Richards appeared shocked and immediately got emotional after Cohen said, “He said he chose flawless diamonds for his flawless wife.”
2017: Moving the family
In November 2017, the family of six decided to put their well-known Bel-Air mansion on the market.
Around the same time, they moved to an 11,000-square-foot-home in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley region.
“We went into this house and I went, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I was completely blown away, because it’s not like anything you would see in Los Angeles, normally. I just fell in love, and my husband did, too,” Richards told “Entertainment Tonight” in December 2017.
December 2017: A tragic start
Sadly, their new home was burglarized in December 2017 while they were vacationing in Aspen, Colo.
The thieves stole over $1 million worth of jewelry — including Richards’ 20th anniversary earrings — handbags, watches and priceless items given to the reality star by her late mother.
“Everything was taken,” Richards told People in January 2018. “Everything my mother, who passed away, had ever collected and saved to give to me — that I had always envisioned of passing on to my four daughters — was gone.
“Even my children’s baby bracelets. Obviously those are the things that hurt the most, things that I can’t replace. They’re completely invaluable.”
January 2021: The big 2-5
Richards and Mauricio hit their next relationship milestone on January 20, 2021, with their 25th wedding anniversary.
“It means so much, and it’s something that we’re both incredibly proud of,” Richards told Bravo Insider in November 2021. “And for me, it’s one of my biggest accomplishments. I mean, I think it’s refreshing, in this town to be married 25 years is a really big deal. And we’re really proud to be good role models to our daughters.”
Mauricio agreed, adding that “it feels easy and doesn’t feel like it’s been that long.”
The couple graced the November 2021 cover of the Knot where they spilled all about the last two-and-a-half decades of marriage.
“Oh my gosh, what could we say about these 25 years? We’ve been through so much,” she told the outlet. “I think it’s important to know that you are going to be challenged and you have to start out remembering that you are in this for better or for worse.”
Richards concluded by saying they’re “in this until the day we die.”
June 2022: A new chapter of reality TV
For the first time, Richards took a backseat in the reality TV world and let her husband take center stage when he and their daughters starred on their own Netflix show, “Buying Beverly Hills.”
The first season of the real estate show aired in November 2022, and Richards joined Mauricio and her children at the premiere party that same month.
“I always said my daughters would NOT do reality television and yet here we are. Ultimately, the decision came down to them. They are business women and have followed in the best steps possible with @mumansky18 leading the way in the real estate world,” Richards captioned an Instagram carousel at the time.
Early 2023: Keeping up socials
For the first half of 2023, Mauricio continued gushing about Richards on Instagram, with posts for her birthday in January and Valentine’s Day one month later.
“Happy Birthday to my Queen the love of my life. You bring life, love, happiness to all our lives and to everyone around you. Thank you for all our years and all our future years. You get better and better. I Love you ❤️ I couldn’t do it without you. XOXO,” he captioned a series of snaps.
For Valentine’s Day, the realtor shared a sultry snap of his wife sitting on a couch and again called her his “Queen.”
However, Richards did not share a post for Valentine’s Day or Mauricio’s birthday in June. In fact, he had been absent from her feed for months.
April 2023: Divorce denials
While filming Season 13 of “RHOBH” in the spring of 2023, both Richards and Umansky shut down “rumblings” that they were having marital problems.
Richards exclusively told Page Six in April 2023 that her castmates were questioning her after a “stupid” photo of her leaving a gym without her wedding ring in February.
“When this stuff would come up before, I would like, cry and I was devastated,” she told us. “But now, I’m more like, ‘OK, I’ve done this before. Let’s do this. Bring it on. Come on. Let’s see what you got for me here.'”
Prior to that, Mauricio shared that they were “not getting divorced” during an episode of the “Two Ts in a Pod with Teddi Mellencamp and Tamra Judge” podcast.
“I mean, it’s so dumb,” he said at the time. “[There’s] that one stupid story that came out there and then the girls all, you know, decided to talk about it on the ‘Housewives,’ and so now it’s a storyline.”
July 3, 2023: News of their separation breaks
Just three months after shutting down separation speculation, Page Six confirmed on July 3, 2023, that they were separating after 27 years of marriage.
“Kyle and Mauricio have been separated for a while now but are still living under the same roof,” a source told People at the time. “They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family.”
The estranged couple later shared a joint statement on July 4.
“In regards to the news that came out about us today… Any claims regarding divorcing are untrue. However, yes, we have had a rough year. The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously,” they wrote.
The pair also emphasized that there had been “no wrongdoing on anyone’s part.”
“While it may be entertaining to speculate, please do not create false stories to fit a further salacious narrative,” they concluded while thanking fans for their “love and support.”
July 2023: Fans question Richards’ new friendship
In February 2022, Richards introduced country singer Morgan Wade to her Instagram followers, but it wasn’t until after her split that fans began questioning the nature of their relationship.
“I stalked @morganwademusic on IG after listening to her music while driving solo from Utah to Colorado while making #housewivesofthenorthpole & today we met up in person for the 1st time. The most unlikely of friendships some may think but kinship knows no boundaries,” Richards captioned a group photo on Feb. 17, 2022.
Over the next year and a half, she shared several photos from their time together, including being Wade’s guest at the Americana Music Honors & Awards in September 2022, vacationing together with friends and spending time in Paris while Richards helps produce a documentary about the musician.
“Happy birthday @morganwademusic May all your dreams continue to come true! Keep shining 💫 We love you,” Richards shared on Instagram for Wade’s birthday on Dec. 10, 2022.
Fans continued to speculate about their relationship when they also noticed both Wade and Richards have identical rings and heart tattoos.
They also noticed Wade got a new “K” tattoo on her arm. Richards later confirmed that she inked her initial onto the singer’s body in the explosive “RHOBH” Season 13 trailer.
In August 2023, Richards starred in Wade’s steamy music video for “Fall in Love With Me,” where they acted out several sultry scenes, including bathing together, dressing up in lingerie and nearly kissing.
“You see people being obsessed with us being friends and why we’re friends, but we thought it would be a good idea kind of to … troll the trolls a little bit,” Wade said in a behind-the-scenes clip.
Richards agreed, saying that if people are “gonna talk, you might as well give them something to talk about.”
Amid the speculation following Richards’ split, the duo remained close friends and continued to be spotted together.
In October 2023, Richards picked up Wade from the airport before they were photographed wearing similar edgy outfits.
Both Richards and Wade have shut down the romance rumors.
September-October 2023: Confirming separation
From July 2023 to the end of September 2023, Richards and Mauricio remained vague about the status of their relationship and went back and forth on whether or not they were separated.
However, Mauricio finally confirmed the split in an interview with TMZ on Sept. 29, 2023.
“Kyle and I are human beings, OK? We have emotions, we have feelings, we’re going through a really hard time, OK?” he said. “We are currently separated, we are not talking about divorce and we’re trying to deal with this stuff internally with ourselves privately.”
Shortly afterward, Page Six obtained photos of Richards being comforted by friends after she also confirmed to a paparazzo on Oct. 1, 2023 that they were “separated.”
“I’m sick of hearing about it. I’m sure everyone else is sick of hearing about it,” she said.
October 3, 2023: Bombshells from the explosive ‘RHOBH’ trailer
Just two days after Richards admitted to the separation, Bravo released the explosive “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Season 13 trailer on Oct. 3, 2023.
The dramatic promo teased that the couple would address their marital problems and even alleged affairs.
“I’m just glad it’s you out there having an affair,” Mauricio told Richards in one scene.
Richards didn’t deny the claim, but instead quipped, “For once, it’s me.”
The trailer also teased an emotional sit-down with their four daughters to explain the situation.

October 4, 2023: Not done yet
Despite both parties confirming the separation, Mauricio exclusively told Page Six in October 2023 that he and Richards still working on their marriage.
“And we’re struggling. We’ve been very open about it. We’re separated [but] we’re not throwing in the towel yet,” he said at the time.
“When we know what happens to us, you will know what happens to us,” he concluded.
